Uruguay - Montevideo (AFP) – Uruguay has become the first nation in Latin America to marry members of the same sex, after a law allowing heterosexual and homosexual couples living together for at least five years to formalize their union went into effect.
National, State and Local News:
Equality and Justice Day - On Tuesday, April 29, 2008, New Yorkers gathered in Albany to help win marriage equality, transgender non-discrimination protections, and safe schools for our LGBT youth.
Spotlight On:
The Pride Center of Western New York, located at 18 Trinity Place, in the Allentown section of Buffalo, is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization. Their mission is to work with the community to make Western New York a safe, healthy, and satisfying place for lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, and transgender (LGBT) people to live, work, and establish their families.
The Pride Center strives to work with organizations, businesses, and individuals in the areas of health care, legal issues, and other needed assistance; to develop leadership within the community; to expand the visibility of LGBT issues and accomplishments; and to educate the general public about the value that the LGBT community has in our society.
